Fumaric acid 13 and maleic acid 14 are the isomers that the melting point and physical property are remarkably different as shown in the bottom. It is heat of combustion that is interesting, and that for 14 which is cis form is a little bigger. This is the phenomenon generally seen in the cis form. Why?
